NEWPORT – Daytime commuters using U.S. Highway 20 between Newport and Toledo should be prepared for traffic delays of 20 minutes or more Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 15-16. The work was moved back by one day because of expected inclement weather Tuesday.
Oregon Department of Transportation crews are removing 20 trees at the top of a landslide along the highway three miles east of Newport. The delays will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. both days.
ODOT said in a news release that crews are removing unstable, hazardous trees from the slide area to prevent them from falling on the road and power transmission lines. Flaggers will stop traffic when trees are being taken down, ODOT said. Delays can be 20 minutes or less, but could be longer if material falls on the road.
