CORVALLIS – A U.S. Bureau of Land Management official from Springfield has been named supervisor of the Siuslaw National Forest.
Rebecca Brooke, who has served as the BLM’s upper Willamette field manager the past five years, replaces Robert Sanchez who led held the Siuslaw’s supervisor job since 2018. Sanchez recently accepted a position as deputy regional forester for the Pacific Northwest Region.
Brooke begins work Monday at the Siuslaw supervisor’s office in Corvallis.
The Siuslaw National Forest covers 630,000 acres from Tillamook in the north to Coos Bay in the south, with ranger districts in Waldport and Hebo and the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area in Reedsport.
Brooke began her federal career with the Forest Service in Philadelphia, and then joined the strategic planning, budget and accountability team in Washington, D.C. After a temporary assignment to the Sequoia National Forest, she moved to California with the BLM, first as a supervisory natural resource specialist in Bishop and then as the associate field manager in Bakersfield.
She has also worked as BLM California’s Congressional liaison, BLM Oregon and Washington’s branch chief for planning, monitoring and social sciences, and deputy district manager for the BLM in northwest Oregon.
Brooke attended Oberlin College where she double majored in biology and environmental studies. She has a master of science in natural resource management and a master of business administration the University of Michigan.
