Lincoln County launched a special website Thursday to share local, state and national information on the emerging threat and public concern over the coronavirus, or COVID-19 and suggestions on how to possibly avoid it.
The website was set up in coordination with the Oregon Health Authority, Lincoln County public health department and a wide range of local health and medical organizations.
The Oregon Health Authority reports there are no COVID-19 cases in Oregon. If an Oregon case is identified, Lincoln County Public Health said it will provide additional information and guidance via the website, social media and its medical partners.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has advised that the best protection against the coronavirus is following standard cold and flu prevention measures.
In addition, the county health department said the information line 211 has been activated for general coronavirus questions. People can dial “211” on their telephone or go to the website 211.org.
In addition to its new website with local information and links to state and federal resources, the county’s health department will also share updates on its Facebook and Twitter pages.
Lincoln County Public Health and the CDC recommend everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including:
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Stay home when you are sick.
Cover your mouth with your upper arm or tissue when coughing or sneezing.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
CDC does not recommend face masks for the general public.
Cindy Meier says
The fear factor about this virus is fueled by too much hype. There have been viruses for millennia and yes people have died, but putting so much fear out in the public is not productive. Statistics say the average age of those who have died is 70 and smokers…It is sad to see such turmoil in our country and the world…not just the virus. Political and financial influences…the old saying “follow the money”. .
