To the editor:
I have lived across the street from Melaia Kilduff for five years. In those five years I have witnessed her life with her family, I watched as she transitioned from teacher to working from home, and I have seen her step into city leadership with confidence and integrity.
Two years ago, following a public conflict with city manager Dann Cutter, Melaia sought as much information as she could get before appearing before the City Council. Not one to do things half-way, she ultimately wanted to know more about what was going on at City Hall. The opportunity to run for City Council was presented when her current mayoral opponent left to work for the city of Yachats.
Her two-year term in office has brought changes to how I see our city.
In the two years that Melaia Kilduff has been on the council I have seen more transparency; there is more news coming out of City Hall. There have been more opportunities for community engagement; the days I spent working on the playground with Melaia Kilduff, councilors Michelle Severson and Jayme Morris were a privilege and an honor.
I am hopeful when I look forward to Melaia Kilduff’s term as our mayor because I know that she will open opportunities for us to engage with City Hall by listening to our concerns and ideas, ensure that clear information comes out of City Hall, and continue to work with Mr. Cutter to improve the way the city communicates with us, the citizens of Waldport.
