YACHATS — Popular party band Weird Science will be the live-music performers at a free — and alcohol-free — dance party at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Yachats Commons.
All ages are welcome to enjoy the music, dancing, non-alcoholic beverages and light snacks at this fourth Central Coast Community Dance Party of the year.
Weird Science is a four-piece band that specializes in hits from the ‘80s. The members also contribute their talents to other local groups, including Yachats Big Band, Lincoln Pops Orchestra and others.
Table seating will be available for attendees, who are encouraged to bring a meal from any of Yachats’ restaurants. Light snacks, coffee, hot chocolate, water and juice will be served. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
The event, which began last December as a “sober dance party” has drawn crowds from the coast and inland Oregon. “No one has to dance and anyone can dance, not just couples,” said Yachats businesswoman Cheri Capron. She promotes Lisha & The Outlaws, a popular band that is also a sponsor of the dance parties.
The parties are organized, set up and cleaned up by local volunteers. Sponsorship and support are provided by Lisha & The Outlaws, Polly Plumb Productions, the Yachats Chamber of Commerce, Yachats Third Street Shops and the city of Yachats.
While admission is free, donations are welcome to help support maintenance of the Commons.
