The jetty at South Beach State Park in Newport will be the place to catch a break this weekend when the second Annual Oregon State Surfing Championship comes to the central Oregon coast.
Presented by the Oregon Surfing Association, the contest promises world-class waves and the best surfing on the coast.
The festivities begin at noon Friday, Sept. 27, with set up until 4 p.m. , followed by a surf, and enjoying the sunset at a tailgate party.
The contest officially starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, with divisions including an Open Shortboard, Women’s Shortboard, Men’s Longboard, Women’s Longboard, Big Kahuna 50+ (all gender), Under 19 Boys, Under 19 Girls, Under 14 Open, Open Bodyboard, Open Kneeboard, Open SUP and a Paddle Race to end the day.
Coffee and mimosas will be served in the morning and the beer garden will open at 11 a.m. with a variety of Rogue Ales.
The awards ceremony and after party will take place at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at Rogue Ales & Spirits, 2320 Marine Science Drive.
The Oregon Surfing Association is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting the growth and competitive success of amateur surfers in Oregon while producing state champions that can compete for national titles.
