To the editor:
I am writing to express my concern as a Waldport resident regarding the spraying of pesticides close to the Waldport watershed and adjacent to the public spring water faucet on Highway 34.
We know that pesticides are applied without precision especially if they are sprayed aerially due to the ever-present effects of wind and rain. In 2016 Lincoln County voters passed a no aerial spray measure that was overturned by the courts.
Well, there seems to be very little we can do to protect ourselves and the precious water we drink. However, as taxpayers, shouldn’t we demand that our drinking water is regularly tested for public safety following pesticide application as close as 10 feet to the water source? Why is it my responsibility to pay for expensive lab reports when Weyerhaeuser is walking away with huge profits?
