WALDPORT — Bees, butterflies and other critters will be celebrated Saturday when the Waldport Public Library presents its second annual “Pollinators’ Day.”
Returning to the Seashore Joy Garden in downtown Waldport, the free, all-ages event is part of the library’s summer reading program themed “Read-Renew-Repeat.” The theme represents repurposing and caring about the ecology of the Earth and its creatures.
“It is a day to celebrate the importance of bees, butterflies, bats and other pollinators that make it possible for plants to grow and life to continue,” said Sharon McCrum, the library’s family outreach coordinator.
This year’s event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature family-friendly projects such as crafting and painting, honey tasting, birdhouse building, and a free hot dog barbecue. No animals are allowed in the garden area because it is a working garden that grows and gives away produce to the community.
Several local and state groups will be represented, including the library’s garden club and teen volunteers, Oregon Coast Aquarium, Siuslaw Field Ranger team, and the Oregon Beekeepers Association.
In addition to Pollinators’ Day and the Summer Reading Program, the library is hosting Jam Day at the Garden with acoustic music in July, and a garden workshops day in August. For more information, contact the library at 541-563-5880, or visit its website.
