YACHATS — Pedestrian safety delineators along U.S. Highway 101 on the south edge of Yachats are expected to be installed this summer, the city council was told last week.
The delineators separating pedestrians from traffic along U.S. Highway 101 will run in a solid line from Yachats River Road to the Yachats River bridge.
When exactly the work will begin depends on the Oregon Department of Transportation, which is installing and paying for the delineators. The city has been working with ODOT for two years trying to get the project designed and installed. The grant-funded project is expected to cost $20,000. Yachats’ public works department will then be responsible for maintaining and replacing any damaged delineators.
The waist-high reflective delineators will be substantially tougher than the ones currently glued in place along Ocean View Drive. They will be bolted to the asphalt one foot from the white fog line and are rated to bounce back without breaking if run over by a vehicle.
The more durable delineators along the highway represent a pilot project for ODOT, according to public works staff, who will order extra so they can upgrade the ones along Ocean View Drive.

It’s really happening!!

And not a moment too soon! Drivers do not pay attention to the 25 mph sign when leaving town and come barreling around that curve and are often over the right line, which has been scary and dangerous.
