Four projects in Lincoln County ranging from fire stations to a welding training center to wastewater repairs are among 15 projects that Rep. Val Hoyle, D-Ore. has submitted to the House Appropriations Committee as candidates for funding in fiscal 2024-2025.
“These 15 projects reflect the priorities of local communities who know their needs best,” said Hoyle said in a news release Tuesday announcing the projects. “If funded, these projects will support the construction of affordable housing, promote workforce development, advance public safety and more.”
Hoyle’s requests amount to $28.5 million; the Lincoln County requests total nearly $10.3 million.
Each House member is allowed to submit 15 community projects to the House Appropriations Committee to be considered for funding on behalf of their congressional district. In 2023-24 Hoyle had 14 of her 15 proposed projects funded for a total of $16.6 million.
In Lincoln County the projects are:
- Central Oregon Coast Fire & Rescue: $3 million for facility renovation and equipment upgrades at the district’s headquarters. These improvements will help the district to bring its fire station to current health and fire codes, as well as allow for the purchase of equipment;
- Siletz Fire District: $1.35 million to help pay for a new fire station that meets current standards and also create an evacuation shelter, which does not exist in the area;
- Oregon Coast Community College Maritime Welding Workforce and Training Facility: $2.99 million for the construction of a dedicated workforce and training facility in Toledo next to the Port of Toledo’s shipyard; and
- City of Newport Wastewater Improvements: $3 million to update the current outdated and malfunctioning wastewater system at the Northside Pump Station.

- Port of Port Orford Affordable Workforce Housing: $1.5 million to acquire property to develop 30 units of affordable housing for the local workforce.

Lisa says
I am glad for the projects as everyone needs help, but I am tired that my community gets left out of the conversation. Yes, we have let our representatives know of our needs, but we get lost and have to fund our infrastructure project without support.
