A Waldport woman died following an auto accident Saturday night and Oregon State Police on Sunday arrested the driver of the car in which she was riding on manslaughter charges.
Rhawnie L. Harp, 40, died at Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital following the 5:55 p.m. accident on U.S. Highway 20 two miles east of Newport.
Oregon State Police said Michael J. Craycroft, 52, of Newport, was driving east in his 1978 Jeep CJ5 when he lost control, spun off the south side of the road and struck the bank.
Harp, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the Jeep, police said, and was seriously injured.
Craycraft was also taken to the Newport hospital and kept overnight.
Police said hospital tests Saturday night on Craycraft revealed his blood alcohol level was over .08 percent.
Craycraft was released from the hospital Sunday morning and police immediately arrested him on charges of second-degree manslaughter, drunken driving, reckless driving, and reckless endangering. He is in the Lincoln County Jail.
