YACHATS – An annual tradition returns Wednesday, Feb. 14, when the “Ceremony of Renewal and Commitment” takes place at Yachats Community Presbyterian Church.
Married or not, committed couples are invited to take part in either of two seatings at 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Local interfaith minister Mary Crook, who has facilitated the event since it began in 1996, will lead the service. Each couple will receive a decorative certificate as a memento of the occasion. Live music will be provided by local musicians John “JD” Deriberprey at the 12:30 p.m. seating, and David Cowden at the 5:30 p.m. event.
This year’s theme for the non-religious event will be “Rebuilding your commitment.”
A popular tradition over the years, the Valentine’s Day ceremony draws couples from throughout the state. There is a suggested donation of $20 per couple, with all proceeds benefiting the Little Log Church Museum, which is about to undergo major repair and restoration. The museum was the site of the event until three years ago, when it was forced to close because of its deteriorating condition. The Presbyterian church offered space for the event.
Because seating is limited, reservations are required. To secure a spot, or for more information, call Crook at 541-547-4547. Yachats Community Presbyterian Church is located at 360 W. Seventh St., just off U.S. Highway 101, and parking is available in the church’s lot off West Sixth Street.
