The Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble is looking for musicians of all types as it begins practicing this month for its 2019-20 season.
Percussion players are especially needed, but all woodwind, brass, and string bass are welcome to join this non-audition, community band.
The first rehearsal of the new season is 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16 at Crestview Heights School, Waldport. People wishing to join the ensemble should be able to read music and have an instrument of their own, rented or borrowed. No audition is required.
The band is made up of high school aged and adult players, ranging in proficiency from advanced beginner to professional. Band directors are Jerry Lees and David Olson.
The band’s repertoire favors transcriptions of light classical pieces, Broadway show tunes, marches, and seasonal favorites. Regular concerts are held in Yachats, Florence and Newport, the first being a seasonal celebration concert Dec.14 in Yachats.
The ensemble rehearses alternately in Florence and Waldport. Following the initial rehearsal Sept. 16, the next rehearsal will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23 at Siuslaw High School.
