YACHATS — More than a decade after its founding, an annual event spotlighting the central coast’s relationship with the Pacific Ocean seems as popular as ever.
The 100 free tickets to the 11th annual “Land-Sea Symposium” in the Yachats Commons were claimed almost as soon as they were released, said Katy Nalvin, communicators director for the Cape Perpetua Collaborative, which sponsors the event.
The good news for everyone else is that the Nov. 18 symposium will be live-streamed on the Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve Facebook page, starting at 5 p.m.
“It’s really great to see this kind of community response to the symposium,” Nalvin said. “It shows that people care a great deal about this very special place between the land the sea.”
Presentations by scientists and researchers will focus on tide pool creatures, sea stars, grey whales, pollinators and sea birds.
Sponsors will also be offering beer, wine, cider and samples of various ocean-reliant foods.
“It’s just a great way to showcase so many of the things going on here,” Nalvin said.
