NEWPORT – For the first time in 20 years, Lincoln County is seeking a new medical examiner.
Dr. Marilyn Fraser of Lincoln City has notified the county that she is giving up her medical examiner duties as of Nov. 1. Fraser is maintaining her family medicine practice based at Samaritan Lincoln City Medical Center.
The end of her county service has the county seeking proposals from medical doctors to take over the contracted position. The deadline to apply is Nov. 15.
The county medical examiner oversees investigations of deaths due to injuries, those occurring under suspicious circumstances, and the deaths of people not under the care of a physician. The county says medical examiner oversees an average of 10 cases each month.
In addition to being a licensed medical doctor in Oregon, the county says other desired qualifications include completing a state death investigator training program, being able to complete Oregon death certificates, and help educate others in the medical community, law enforcement and funeral home personnel.
Doctors interested in the position are also asked to propose an hourly rate for their services.
