If you’re not tied up this weekend, the Central Coast Fly Fishers has just the thing — free fly-tying classes aimed at beginners.
The classes are designed for fly anglers who would like to tie their own flies, whether just for the fun of it, or the challenge of learning a new skill. Fly tying also can be an art form, with practitioners creating beautiful flies for framing. Most anglers who tie flies find additional satisfaction when landing a fish caught on a fly that they have tied themselves.
The two free classes will run from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, Sept. 30 and Oct. 7, at the OSU Extension, 1211 S.E. Bay Blvd., Newport.
Classes will be limited to the first eight to respond. Fly tiers from the club will help new tiers, and each person will receive a copy of Randall Kaufmann’s “Fly Tying Made Easy For Beginners.” Tools and materials will be available. The club will also offer tools as raffle prizes and quality vises for lowest prices possible.
Following the initial two classes, newbies should be able to join the club’s monthly tying sessions.
