Volunteers will gather at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Overleaf Lodge to participate in the annual work party to eradicate ivy along the 804 Trail.
The event is organized by the Yachats Trails Committee and sponsored by the Overleaf Lodge and Fireside Motel.
Event organizer Wally Orchard said most of the effort will focus on areas north of the Overleaf and will include removing blackberry vines and thistles. Volunteers are asked to bring their own pruners, diggers, gloves and water. The trails committee will provide instructions and a limited number of tools, he said.
The trail work will last until about 11:30 a.m. Overleaf partner Drew Roslund and his motel staff will provide a barbeque afterwards. Side dishes or desserts are welcome.
Participants will also get a free pass to the Overleaf’s spa.
Orchard said each year volunteers remove about 1,600 pounds of ivy, which gives native vegetation a chance to thrive.
