The Yachats Big Band is holding its second summer performance and benefit dance for the Little Log Church and Museum from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Yachats Commons.
Friends of the Little Log Church and Museum are raising funds for a replacement and restoration of the building.
The popular Yachats Big Band plays regularly at the Yachats Commons the first Thursday of every month. The group has added additional performances to their schedule this summer – called “Big Band at the Beach” – to help raise money for Friends of the Little Log Church and Museum. The program is emceed by Dick Forster, who introduces the songs and provides their history.
Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Little Log Church.
The Little Log Church, which has been at the corner of West Third and Pontiac streets for 90 years, has suffered from progressive deterioration over the years due to dry rot, attacks from aggressive carpenter ants, and inadequate structural issues. Because repair is not a practical option, the Little Log Church Board and the city of Yachats agreed to remove the existing church building and replace it with a building that not only replicates the structure but also maintains the spirit and design of the present structure. All artifacts, furnishings, collections and valuable historical documents will be preserved and returned to the replicated building.
Suggested donation is $5 per person. People can also make tax deductible donations to the Friends of the Little Log Church and Museum.
