Lincoln County’s unemployment rate continues to decline slowly but is still significantly higher than the statewide or national rates.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Lincoln County was 4.3 percent in June, down from 4.6 percent in May. It was 4.9 percent in June 2022.
Oregon’s statewide unemployment rate was 3.5 percent in June, and the national rate was 3.6 percent.
In Lincoln County, seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment increased by 150 jobs in June to 18,930, according to regional economist Erik Knoder. Seasonally adjusted figures compare expected changes with actual changes. A gain of 330 jobs was expected for the month, Knoder reported Tuesday, but the county’s total non-farm employment rose by 480.
The private sector added 390 jobs in June with the leisure and hospitality sector accounting for 290 of those jobs. Manufacturing added 60 jobs, government employment increased by 90, with 60 jobs added in local government.
Knoder said that June’s total non-farm employment numbers show a gain of 570 jobs compared with one year before, an increase of 3.1 percent. The county lost 4,270 jobs in May 2020 as the pandemic hit, and it remains 580 jobs below its pre-pandemic employment of June 2019.
