YACHATS — The city of Yachats is seeking applicants for a vacancy on the city council that was created with the June 13 resignation of Ann Stott.
Applications to serve the remainder of the term, which ends Jan. 1, 2025, are due by 1 p.m. July 17. Applicants must be registered to vote in Oregon and have lived in Yachats for 12 months prior to appointment.
Council members meet twice a month for regular sessions and once a month for work sessions. Additional time commitments may include committee meetings, budget meetings and more.
Responsibilities include the ability to learn about a wide variety of issues, a willingness to consider differing opinions during decision-making and understanding how the council functions and operates through the city charter.
Good communication and willingness to accept majority rule are crucial to the position, as well as analytical skill, acceptance of public criticism and a sense of humor, according to the city’s announcement.
No date is set for choosing a new council member, but there will likely be a four-to-six-month period before candidates will be interviewed and chosen during public meetings, Mayor Craig Berdie said.
