Oregon State Police are seeking the public’s help to identify four people who vandalized portions of the historic Heceta Head lighthouse the night of Wednesday, June 14.
The vandalism – spray painting and breaking a window – on the lighthouse building is expected to cost $10,000 to $20,000 to repair, according to Oregon State Parks ranger Burke Martin.
The vandalism was captured on surveillance video, state police said.
It shows that about 8:43 p.m. June 14 the four people approaching the lighthouse and its buildings, including one who was carrying a can of spray paint. Two of the individuals were observed breaking a window on the lighthouse building and attempting entry, police said in a news release Tuesday.
The four fled, however, when another person approached them.
Police said one of the associated lighthouse buildings was vandalized with spray paint, and signs along the trail from the parking lot to the lighthouse was also damaged.
Oregon State Police said they are investigating the incident, but asked for additional information or evidence that could lead to the identification of the four suspects.
