EUGENE – Travelers who use the Eugene Airport are losing two routes but gaining another.
United Airlines has ended service between Eugene and O’Hare International Airport in Chicago. The route had opened in June 2019 as a seasonal route for the summer. United flights between Eugene and Los Angeles International Airport, which started in March 2019, will be suspended starting in January.
A nationwide pilot shortage, fuel costs and delays with new aircraft deliveries led to United deciding to end the routes in Eugene, said airport director Cathryn Stephens.
But beginning in February, the Eugene Airport is gaining nonstop Southwest Airlines flights to Hollywood Burbank Airport.
The new route will start Feb. 19. It will be a daily route that leaves Eugene at 3:35 p.m. and arrives in Burbank at 5:50 p.m. The returning flight to Eugene will Burbank at 12:40 p.m., arriving in Eugene at 2:50 p.m.
