WALDPORT — Applications for matsutake mushroom collection permits for the Central Coast Ranger District of the Siuslaw National Forest are open.
Every year, 100 commercial-use permits are available on a first come, first served basis. Anyone wishing to obtain a commercial Matsutake collection permit needs to complete a request form by Aug. 22. Staff will begin processing permit requests Aug. 25.
A commercial use permit costs $250 and is required for any individual gathering more than six matsutake mushrooms per day or for anyone gathering to sell. Permits are valid through Dec. 31.
Request forms can be mailed, filled out in person, or sent by email. Download and print the request form from the Forest Service’s website. Mail the completed form postmarked no later than Aug. 22 to: Attn: Ashley Roseman, Central Coast Ranger District, P.O. Box 400, Waldport, Ore. 97394
Permits will be distributed in the order in which they were received starting Aug. 25. When called, individuals will have the option of receiving the permit and receipt by email, postal mail, or picking it up. Payment is due when the permit is issued.
After Aug. 25, remaining permits will be issued out of the Waldport and Reedsport offices. These offices are open for permit sales from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, contact the Waldport office at 541-563-8400 or Reedsport at 541-271-6000.
