YACHATS — Guests at some local hotels and vacation rentals will soon get a water conservation message, thanks to efforts by a church committee and the Yachats Homeschool Group.
The Earth Care Team of Yachats Community Presbyterian Church partnered with the children’s group to produce four different, four-by-six inch cards, planned to be distributed in guest rooms at the end of April. The homeschool group operates out of the church.
“Realizing the impact that the tourist industry has on Yachats’ water supply, we wanted to alert vacationers to our water scarcity, and ask their cooperation in minimizing its use,”said Jan Thornton, committee team leader. The Earth Care Team worked with homeschool instructor Angie Deriberprey and several of her students to produce the colorful artwork for the cards.
All four cards are headlined “Welcome to Yachats! We’re glad you’re here!” followed by drawings and text about limiting shower time, turning off the faucet when brushing teeth, and conserving water in general.
