YACHATS — What better way is there to celebrate world math “Pi Day” on March 14 than with a handmade pie from the Yachats Ladies Club?
In its second annual “Pi Day Pie Sale” fundraiser, the club is offering whole pies by pre-order only through March 8 — or until they’re sold out. At $25 each, the pies are already going fast — the gluten-free “lemon lavender” is sold out. Still available are apple, berry (blueberry or Marionberry), cherry, chocolate, limited quantities of pecan, rhubarb, lemon meringue and huckleberry cream.
With only about 40 pies planned, pie-lovers are urged to get their reservations in soon. Customers can reserve their pies by calling club secretary Meralee Wilson at 541-563-6651.
“We sold out last year, and expect to again this year,” said Wilson.
Pick-up day is noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at the club 286 W. Third St.
Proceeds from the sale benefit area children’s organizations, including Yachats Youth And Family Activities Program and CASA of Lincoln and Tillamook Counties.
Until the pandemic struck, the traditional Ladies Club pie sale was a fixture in Yachats for decades, filling the club headquarters with customers buying pie by the slice. So last year, the group tied into “Pi Day” to sell whole pies only.
March 14 is when the math world celebrates pi, the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, often approximated as 3.14.
Pie payments may be made at pick-up with cash or credit/debit cards.
“Remember, it’s for charity,” added Wilson. “No calories!”
