To the editor:
This is an open letter to Lincoln County commissioners Doug Hunt, Claire Hall, Kaety Jacobson and legal counsel Kristin Yuille.
First the Land Use Board of Appeals and now election impropriety? As I read about the machinations of the short-term rental supporters, it is clearly apparent they have reduced themselves to throwing whatever they have at the wall to see what sticks.
The members of the greater Lincoln County community ask that the commissioners and legal counsel find the courage to remain steadfast in their recent support of the implementation of Ballot Measure 21-203 and what it intends to help accomplish: Slow reduction and elimination of short-term rentals in unincorporated neighborhoods zoned R-1/1A and R-2.
To allow the introduction of a new flood of rentals during this period of restraining orders and temporary injunctions would be detrimental to not only the neighborhoods that need protection from further infiltration by mini-motels, but it also diminishes the faith and hope of voters who find solace in the words of the commissioners that the intent of the new law should be enacted given the public’s clear direction.
Stand strong; support the will of the people of Lincoln County who have spoken convincingly — no more STRs in unincorporated neighborhoods. Maintain the moratorium until all legal issues have been decided, and vigorously defend this case.

I much prefer the short term rental and was one of the reasons I purchased my home in the vicinity that I live in. I purchase my home in 2005 in Bayshore, I have a lovely view and a short two block walk to the beach. I would like to keep my home and would not consider anything but short term rental. I am surrounded by short term rentals and have never had any problems since living here. I think its a simple request to have home owners that have STR have some respectful rules. The only problems I have ever heard or seen are fireworks, that a simple fix, no fireworks.

You’re in one of the areas where there have been little to no problems. I have friends that woke up to a tent blocking their driveway and the three houses the people rented together was party central. Nightmare. It wasn’t like this ever. Not until about the last decade these things have taken off. I have a friend that has eight on one side and two on the other and one across the street. She had to sell her house because the privacy was just gone. She sold her home to a vacation rental company and moved to Spokane

Where I live, Ocean Wayside Lane Yachats, a former STR up the street was a headache most every weekend. Many of the renters were rude. They drove way too fast up our narrow driveway, left lights on 24 hours, left barking dogs tied up outside most of the night and were an obnoxious intrusion on our neighborhood. The cleaning and maintenance staff also sped up and down our driveway. I was relieved when the owners finally occupied the house and it stopped being an STR. From what I experienced, they do not belong in residential neighborhoods.
