LINCOLN CITY — After closing two weeks ago because of COVID-19 cases among its staff and hoping to reopen Thursday, Chinook Winds Casino and Resort has announced it will remain closed until at least Sept. 2.
In a statement late Tuesday, the casino announced that due to COVID-19 and the Delta variant, the closure has been extended another week. All hotel reservations prior to Sept. 2 will be automatically canceled. The closure includes the casino, hotel and golf course operations.
The casino originally hoped to reopen Thursday when they announced Aug. 12 they were closing for two weeks.
The casino, hotel and golf operations have 600 employees and is operated by the Confederated Tribes of Siletz.
It is the third closure for the casino since the coronavirus pandemic began 20 months ago. It closed from mid-March to mid-May 2020 and then again last December to mid-January. Employees are being paid during the closure.
