To the editor:
Of course the city of Yachats should ban the use of floodlights lighting the waves. Without a continual growth in regulations, how can the city justify the costs of purchasing and remodeling the White Elephant now known as City Hall? It will take staff – lots of staff – to fill the vacuum of that edifice. Staff needs something to do, like enforcing regulations. We need more regulations!
Like the onerous new regulations on vacation rentals, the floodlight rules will mostly impact non-resident city taxpayers and their guests. This is the safest bet – they can’t vote against targeted taxes or regulations or city councilors. Who cares if the darned tourists have long appreciated nighttime wave watching during their vacations. All they contribute is lodging and restaurant tax dollars.
