Valentine’s Day will be a little sweeter for 100 local individuals, civic groups and businesses this year, thanks to the Yachats Ladies Club and Yachats Lions.
The two groups are teaming up to deliver “Random Acts of Kindness” on Tuesday, Feb. 14 in the form of treat bags containing cookies, cupcakes and other treats to recipients in Yachats and Waldport.
About 100 bags will be hand-delivered as a surprise gesture to those who are deemed deserving. “The purpose is to spread kindness … it’s a celebration,” said “Huck” Huckins, president of the Ladies Club and organizer of the event.
The project continues a tradition that was interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. Volunteers from the two clubs baked and bagged the treats, which are intended to “promote a sense of community again — we all need to re-connect,” said Huckins.
“We’ll start delivering the bags at 9 a.m. on Valentine’s Day, and hope to be able to catch all our recipients at their home, office or place of business,” she said. The project began around 2016, but “hasn’t been held for three years due to Covid. We’re just glad to be getting back to it.”
