Yes, February was both rainy and cold.
Yachats got more than a foot of rain in February – 12.25 inches measured at the city’s wastewater treatment plant – almost double the amount in January.
That foot of rain made February 2019 the second wettest February in the past 10 years in Yachats. Only February 2017 had more – 13.85 inches.
February’s total is 4 inches more than the 10-year average of 8.19 inches.
Depending on how you see it, that’s the bad or good news.
But February is usually only the fourth-wettest in Yachats, according to the city’s records. In order, December, March and November have more average rainfall — ranging from 11.87 inches to 10.58 inches.
So, while it may be March there may be no rain reprieve in sight.
As for the cold, February had it as well – the average temperature measured at the National Weather Service office at Portland International Airport was six degrees below normal.
