Starting this week, YachatsNews is collaborating with Oregon Coast TODAY to provide more arts and entertainment coverage on its website.
Each week, YachatsNews will feature 1-2 stories from Oregon Coast TODAY on the homepage of its website and then provide links to the rest of that weekly newspaper’s online content.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with YachatsNews to bring our arts and entertainment coverage to new audiences,” said Patrick Alexander, owner and publisher of Oregon Coast TODAY. “YachatsNews is a great example of local news done right and we are proud to see stories from Oregon Coast TODAY play a role in such a valuable community service.”
Oregon Coast TODAY was founded in 2005 by Dave and Niki Price and then purchased by the statewide newspaper group EO Media in 2012. Alexander, who had been editor of the Lincoln City News-Guard, purchased the publication in 2020.
Depending on the season, there are 7,000 to 11,000 Oregon Coast TODAY papers printed each week and distributed to stores, motels, restaurants another outlets from Yachats in the south to Manzanita in the north.
YachatsNews founder and editor Quinton Smith said the collaboration is one of several it has with news organizations and nonprofits around Oregon, including Oregon ArtsWatch, Oregon Capital Chronicle, EO Media/Pamplin Media, Ashland News, Oregon Public Broadcasting, and Underscore News.
“This is one more way local, nonprofit news organizations are working together to bring news – in this case arts and entertainment coverage on the Oregon coast – to more people,” Smith said.
YachatsNews started as a community service project in January 2019, became a 501c3 nonprofit in October 2022, and hired its first full-time paid reporter in December. The website had more than 1 million unique page views in 2022 and currently averages 135,000 page views a month from people seeking information about Yachats, Waldport, Seal Rock, Newport and Lincoln County.
