YACHATS — Yachats’ annual Winter Solstice celebration fires up at the Pavilion behind the Commons from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21 “or until the bonfire goes out.”
The public is invited to enjoy free chili, cookies donated by the Yachats Ladies Club, popcorn, beverages, music and dancing. Attendees are urged to dress warmly for the outdoor event, which centers around a traditional bonfire.
Morgen Silverhorn and friends will entertain and lead an acoustic instrument jam session, open to all players.
The Winter Solstice occurs when the earth’s axis is tilted farthest away from the sun, resulting in the shortest day of the year. This year, winter officially begins at 7:17 p.m. After that, the days become longer, leading up to the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year
The celebration is presented by the Yachats Academy of Arts and Sciences, sponsored by Polly Plumb Productions.
