To the editor:
Thank you for bringing to light the lawsuit brought by Dr. Gavin Shumate against Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in your publication. I’m writing in response to the article dated Dec. 28. As a long-time patient of Dr. Shumate’s, I fully support him bringing the lawsuit against the hospital. His treatment and the allegations against him while employed by Samaritan are egregious.
As someone who has challenges going to doctors’ appointments, he has always treated me with respect and understanding. I can’t say enough about his positive attributes. I’m hoping his new practice, Integrity Women’s Health and Wellness in Newport, much success. I made the choice to move my OB/GYN care to Dr. Shumate’s new practice. I’m very pleased with my decision. I hope that other Lincoln County residents will follow suit.
It has been my experience that patient care by some of the providers at the hospital has diminished. I experienced a change in quality of service around the same time that the new hospital was completed and opened. For this reason, I decided to transfer all my care out of the provider’s offices at the hospital.
