The Yachats Lions Club has announced its grants and scholarships for 2019 and elected new officers for 2019-20.
The club awarded $19,956 in grants to community organizations, gave $2,000 in scholarships and provided $2,530 to the Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation, for a total of $24,486.
New officers are Lawrence Calkins, president; Shari Kiser, vice president; June O’Conner, secretary; Peggy Yorks, treasurer; Tom Kuehlwein, Lion Tamer and Phil Wells, Tail Twister. David O’Kelley is past president.
Community grants were: $1,500 to Yachats Food Pantry; $1,100 to Yachats Youth and Family Activities Program; $1,000 each to Meals on Wheels, South Lincoln Ambulance, Angell Job Corps, Crestview Heights School, Waldport High School, Seashore Family Literacy and the Little Log Church; and, $250 to Yachats Fireworks Committee.
Service awards were: $8,000 to the Lions Building Fund; $665 to YYFAP Santa breakfast; $500 each to California Lions Foundation Fire Relief and PeaceHealth guest house campaign; $185 to Yachats Fire Department dinner; $156 to Dimes for Diabetes; and, $100 to Lions canine companion project.
The club awarded one $1,000 college scholarship and two $500 scholarships.
