YACHATS – The Yachats Lions Club announced $42,769 in grants and scholarships to Lincoln County organizations and students Tuesday night during its annual awards dinner.
Fifteen organizations were awarded a total of $28,500, seven programs received $2,849, three students received $1,000 college scholarships, and $8,420 went to Oregon Lions sight and hearing programs.
“This is record territory for the Lions,” said club president Kevin Yorks, noting that the club donated $30,000 last year. The club raises money through its popular thrift store, pancake breakfasts and annual crab feed.
Receiving grants were: Yachats Food Bank, $2,900; Waldport Food Share, $2,900; Meals on Wheels, $2,500; Yachats Youth and Family Activities Program, $1,500; Friends of Yachats Library, $1,500; Yachats Rural Fire Protection District, $1,800; South Lincoln Ambulance, $2,400; Angell Job Corps, $1,400; Crestview Heights School, $3,300; Waldport High/Middle School, $2,500; YachatsNews, $500; CASA of Lincoln County, $1,500; Children’s Advocacy Center of Lincoln County, $1,000; My Sister’s Place, $1,500; and South Lincoln Resources, $1,300.
Students receiving scholarships were Cayden Ritchey, Waldport; Kimber Miner, Yachats; and Kaden Parker, Yachats.
The Lions spent a total of $2,849 supporting community service programs, including YYFAP calendar sales, $100; YYFAP Breakfast with Santa, $988; Dimes for Diabetes, $161; Waldport Lions backpack program, $500; Ft. Meyers Beach (Fla.) Lions hurricane relief, $500; Waldport Beachcomber Days, $500; and Lincoln County 4-H, $100.
Dinner for Lions Club members and grant recipients was provided by the Drift Inn, Yachats Brewing, Green Salmon, Ona, Sea Note, Bread & Roses, Brenda’s Cocina, and Topper’s.
