YACHATS – After using temporary employees for more than two years, the city of Yachats is looking to fill four positions with union-scale salaries, state retirement benefits, medical insurance and paid time off.
In an announcement Tuesday, the city said it wants to hire four administrative assistants for technical and confidential tasks. Those assistants will be paid $43,016 to $55,635 a year and work in areas of finance and payroll, utility billing, code enforcement and reception. The code enforcement position is three-quarters full time and the receptionist hours vary, according to the announcement.
In addition to their wages, those hired will receive contributions to Oregon’s retirement system, medical, dental and vision coverage and paid vacation and sick time.
Under an agreement last summer with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, the city had 12 months to work out an office organization plan and post the jobs instead of using the temporary employees. The city has contracted with the Lane County Council of Governments to update its personnel policies and create job descriptions.
The city is seeking candidates with experience with office work, customer service, and computer database applications. They should also possess basic math skills and either be a notary public or able to become a notary within six months. Applicants will also have to pass a background check.
Applications will remain open until the positions are filled. For a full job description, contact smarple@lcog.org. Cover letters and completed applications, which can be found with the hiring announcement, should also be sent to that email address.
James Kerti says
This is a step in the right direction.
It’s also utterly bizarre that people have to send an email to request the job descriptions.
If you’re serious about hiring qualified people, why wouldn’t you post the full job description, like every other organization that is hiring people?
