Drew Tracy of Yachats, a former Maryland police official, was appointed Thursday to fill a vacant position on the Yachats Rural Fire Protection District Board.
Tracy fills the seat left vacant when A’lyce Ruberg resigned last fall after it was revealed she lied about her qualifications in the May 2019 Lincoln County voters pamphlet statement. Tracy had finished second to Ruberg in that election.
Tracy spent 30 years in the Montgomery County Police Department, including as assistant chief, and then worked as police chief in two other smaller agencies. He is a graduate of the FBI National Executive Institute and has lectured extensively to police agencies on tactical command, critical incident decision-making and active shooter responses.
The term for that position expires in July 2023, but under Oregon election law the seat is up for election in May 2021.
In other business Thursday, the fire board:
- Began examining its range of pay for emergency medical technicians, paramedics and firefighters based on comparisons with other Oregon coast fire departments
- Decided to drop its Thursday meetings, which is its second meeting of the month, beginning in April. Starting in April the board will meet only on the second Monday of each month.
