You may want to write this down to keep it straight — the Yachats City Council has changed its meeting schedule, again.
The council has been meeting at 9:30 a.m. the first Wednesday of the month and 6 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month. It scheduled one night meeting a month more than two years ago to make it easier for people who work or have other duties during the day to attend.
In September the council voted 3-2 to change the time of its meeting on the third Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 2 p.m.
But last week Councilor Leslie Vaaler – who had voted against the change to 2 p.m. – suggested that having both meetings on Wednesdays could also limit people from attending. Ironically, she brought it up during a council chamber filled with people who waited through three hours of other council business to testify or hear its vote on a 125-license limit on vacation rentals.
After a bit of discussion as to what day might work, the council decided to move its first meeting of the month to Thursdays, but still beginning at 9:30 a.m.
So, for now, here it is:
- 9:30 a.m. the first Thursday of the month, which next falls on Nov. 7, and;
- 2 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month, which next falls on Nov. 20.
Better write that down. In pencil.
