YACHATS – Yachats Community Presbyterian Church is sponsoring a candidate’s forum Sunday for the public to hear from five people running for Yachats mayor and city council positions in the Nov. 8 general election. Ballots go out to voters Oct. 19.
The forum is 2-3:30 p.m. at the church, 360 W. Seventh St. and will be moderated by Pastor Bob Barrett.
Invited are the two candidates for mayor — Ann Stott and Craig Berdie. Stott was elected to a four-year term on the city council in 2020 after running unsuccessfully for mayor in 2018. Berdie served four months on the council as an appointee in 2018 and is currently chair of the Parks & Commons Commission.
Council candidates invited are Mary Ellen O’Shaughnessey, Anthony Muirhead and Catherine Whitten-Carey. O’Shaughnessey was appointed to the council in 2020 to fill the remaining three years of an unexpired term. Muirhead was appointed in February 2021 to fill a vacant council seat. Whitten-Carey is a member of the city’s Parks & Commons Commission.
Candidates will give open and closing statements and answer audience questions submitted to Barrett.
