The third annual auction of Yachats street banners on Saturday, Oct. 5 raised $4,000 for an art education fund and public art projects.
Thirty-seven banners hand-painted by local artists hung on light poles around Yachats all summer and then went up for auction. More than 150 people attended the event, according to sponsor and organizer Polly Plumb Productions.
The silent auction raised $7,200. After expenses and money to buy canvas and other supplies for next year, the organization donated $2,000 to the Helen West Art Education Fund and $2,000 to the Yachats Chamber of Commerce for public art projects.
The Yachats Banner Project was started by the Friends of the Yachats Commons Foundation, and is now sponsored by Polly Plumb Productions. Each spring local artists volunteer to design and paint banners and Mike Guerriero of Yachats coordinates the project and prepares the canvases.
