Just in time for the holidays, the Yachats Arts Guild is unwrapping an online art show and sale featuring “local arts and imaginative gifts.”
Beginning Sunday and running through Dec. 24, shoppers can visit the guild’s website to browse watercolors, oil paintings, photography, jewelry and more, all created by YAG members. Show entries in the “Small Treasures Holiday Arts Show & Sale” will have a maximum size of 12 by 12 inches and a maximum price of $100. Once the online show opens, shoppers can select their pieces, and contact the individual artists to make delivery arrangements.
“We’re stuck in our homes, so it’s a good time to make homes more beautiful, find a unique gift for someone, and support our local artists,” said guild member and photographer Donna Bader. “We understand that people may not spend lots of money this year, so that’s why the price limit for the show is $100.”
The guild began in 2007. It is supported by Polly Plumb Productions of Yachats, had to cancel its traditional art shows this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now, the 32-member guild is hoping to bolster its support of young and established artists through the Small Treasures show.
“We don’t meet in person now; we’re using Zoom for our meetings,” said Bader.
Pre-COVID, the guild conducted workshops for less established members to present their work and benefit from more experienced artists’ expertise.
“We’ll resume these after the pandemic has passed,” Bader said.
YAG draws its members from Seal Rock to Tenmile Creek, working in media including paint, watercolors, mosaics, glass, wood, ceramics, photography, and jewelry.
“Because of the pandemic, local artists are struggling — instead of shopping at a big-box store, why not support your local artists?” Bader said.
Artists interested in joining YAG may contact membership chairwoman Claire Good through the main website: yachatsartsguild.org. The guild also maintains a Facebook page.
“The arts community is part of what makes Yachats special,” said Bader, a former California attorney who moved to Yachats two years ago. “We’re all trying to create during COVID; we miss our shows, and we’re going to be back with more creative pieces for everyone to enjoy and purchase.”
