SEAL ROCK – An Oregon State Police wildlife trooper cited two Albany men Sunday for a variety of hunting violations after a property owner in Seal Rock reported they shot a female elk on their land without permission.
Trooper Maleri Cates said after she responded to the call she found that two men were trespassing, the man who shot the elk did not have a 2024 hunting license, the elk was not tagged, the man had shot from the road, and they drove their off-road vehicle onto the property without permission to retrieve the elk.
Cates said in her report that she seized the elk, the man’s rifle and two shell casings as evidence.
She cited Austin Henderson, 24, and Clifford A. Phelps, 76, both of Albany for hunting on another person’s land, killing a cow elk, and failing to tag the animal.

Congratulations to Trooper Cates. Now all we need is a judge with the courage to fine the hell out of these poachers.

I wish people that are commenting on here knew both side of the storie of what happened before passing judgement. Thought we lived in America where the Judicial system where were Innocent until proven guilty. Just because we have law men and women doesn’t mean the accused are automatically guilty.
