Waldport Middle School’s music program has received a $15,000 grant for the 2019-20 school year to help create more involvement by seventh- and eighth-graders by buying instruments, learning from visiting musicians and performing for the community.
The grant is from the Lincoln City-based nonprofit Music is Instrumental via the Oregon Community Foundation. It includes an opportunity for another $15,000 in 2020-21. The group has been facilitating OCF’s Studio to School grant in Lincoln County for five years.
“We created a sequential music program in grades K-12 building from one teacher with 140 students in 2014 to three teachers with 1,250 students in 2018,” said Christine Tell, who led the Studio to School grant. “We wrote this new grant to sustain and expand access to music to other students on the coast, starting with Waldport Middle School.”
