SALEM – A 39-year-old Waldport man has been sentenced to six years in prison for a 2022 crash that killed one person and injured three others in south Salem.
Jose DeJesus Briones pleaded guilty in Marion County court Jan. 9 to five counts, including manslaughter, assault and driving under the influence of intoxicants.
At about 9:45 a.m. March 21, Briones was driving a Jeep on Liberty Road when he hit a Subaru driving through the intersection with Ewald Avenue. He crashed into the passenger door, according to court records.
Zachary Murfin, 24, died as a result of injuries from the crash. The three other people in the car were seriously injured.
Briones was sentenced to 75 months in prison and fined $1,000.
