WALDPORT – Get your quarters ready – the only public laundromat in south Lincoln County is reopening Wednesday.
Crews for Sweet Homes Vacation Getaways are cleaning up Tuesday from construction work and will reopen the SudSea laudromat with coffee and doughnuts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Sweet Homes closed the facility in December after repeated breakdowns of washers and dryers, trouble finding contractors to do repairs, and as it waited for new washers to arrive.
Now the repairs are done. New commercial washers are installed and dryers fixed and ready to go, said Kasey Baker, vice president of management and design for the Waldport-based vacation rental company.
Laundromat hours for the public will be from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, except for closing at noon Tuesdays for cleaning and any upkeep. SudSea is closed to the public after 6 p.m. when Sweet Homes uses it for doing its clients’ laundry.
Baker said there are four new commercial washing machines and two more washers and two more dryers are on order. When those are installed, there will be 16 washers and 14 dryers.
“We decided we’re not going to wait, we’re just going to open it,” she said.
Baker said Sweet Homes has spent $75,000 on repairs, remodeling and machines. Next, the company is renovating the adjacent apartments and is getting bids to remodel the exterior of the small plaza along U.S. Highway 101.
Oh, one thing however. The change machine is not working, another is on order but 10 weeks out – so bring your own quarters, or ask the attendant to make change.
Sweet Homes bought SudSea and the adjacent business/apartment plaza in February 2020, a year after purchasing Pioneer Connect’s vacant warehouse in downtown Waldport. The company then moved its maintenance, operations, interior design and property management from Yachats to Waldport.
