WALDPORT — The Bader Fine Art Gallery and sponsors handed out more than $1,350 in awards to Waldport-area teenagers in the gallery’s first youth art show and contest.
Vera Kyei, 13, of Waldport won best of show and $300 for her ceramic dragon.
Avia Lambert, 17, Waldport, won first prize and $250 in the division for artists age 16-18. Second went to Bee Strack, 16, Waldport, $150; third to Nalaya Borders, 16, Waldport, $75; and honorable mention to Cleo Greenwood, 17, Waldport, $50.
Honorable mentions and awards of $132 each in the division for artists age 12-15 were Taylor Schuch, 12, Waldport; Rigel Peters, 12, Waldport; Vera Kyei, 13, Waldport; and Serena Sides, 13, Waldport.
Judges were Yachats Art Guild members Debbie Aken and Lori Stevens. Sponsors were Polly Plumb Productions, Alsea Bay Center for the Arts, the Yachats Art Guild, Seashore Literacy, Pioneer Connect, Enough, and Capri Architecture.
“The kids were happy about the event, even more so if they won an award and took home a cash prize,” said gallery owner and contest organizer Donna Bader of Yachats. “The parents were also pleased to have the opportunity to have their young artists’ work recognized.”
