Waldport City Manager Kerry Kemp plans to resign April 30, 2020, after six years in the job.
Kemp, 61, who lives in Yachats, said he simply wants to “take a break and recharge.”
“I’ve been doing this kind of work for 35 years,” he told YachatsNews.com this week. “I’m too young to retire but I’m in the position to step away for awhile.”
Kemp came to Waldport from California in January 2014. He previously worked in public administration, community development and urban renewal for the cities of Anaheim and Long Beach, and for a private consulting company.
Kemp has informally told the Waldport City Council of his plan to leave the job, but hasn’t given the formal two-month notice as required in his contract. He said he will do that soon so the council has time to find a new manager.
Kemp oversees a staff of 18 and a general fund budget of $1.3 million.
Waldport is also losing its longtime planner, Larry Lewis of Newport, who has worked on contract two days a week for years. He is retiring Dec. 31. Lewis was also the city of Yachats’ one-day-a-week contract planner until he retired from that last December.
