YACHATS — An almost 30-year romantic Yachats tradition takes place Friday, Feb. 14, when the annual Valentine’s Day “Celebration of Renewal and Commitment” takes place.
Committed couples — both married and unmarried — are welcome to attend the group renewal of vows at Yachats Community Presbyterian Church, 360 W. Seventh St. with access to parking via Sixth Street. There will be two seatings – the first at noon and another at 5:30 p.m.
The ceremony will be facilitated by Mary Crook, a Yachats independent non-denominational minister who has led the event since its start in 1996.
The ceremony was staged for years at the Little Log Church Museum but interrupted in 2020 and 2021 by the pandemic. Because the museum is closed for renovation, the renewal has been staged at the Presbyterian Church.
Over the years, couples have come from throughout Oregon and several other states to renew their vows.
“For some, it is a first-time experience,” said Crook. “For others, it has become an annual tradition.”
This year’s theme is “Hearts that Love.” Couples attending will be given a certificate as a memento of the occasion. Music will be provided by David Cowden, who plays keyboard and guitar.
All proceeds will benefit the Little Log Church Museum’s restoration project. The Friends of the Little Log Church Museum suggests a donation of $20 per couple.
Seating is limited and reservations are required. To reserve space, call Crook at 541-547-4547.
