WALDPORT – Food to at least 183 families in south Lincoln County will be on its way Saturday, thanks to volunteers and donations to South Lincoln Resources.
Some 23 volunteers on Wednesday got food boxes ready for Saturday delivery to families who signed up to receive all the fixings – and more – for Thanksgiving meals. Volunteers also worked Friday and Monday.
Turkeys and vegetables arrive later this week before distribution begins Saturday, said Rick Booth, president of the group. Seventeen drivers will distribute boxes of food to 82 families as far east as Five Rivers, north to the Driftwood Village area, south to Yachats and all around Waldport. Other families can pick up their food boxes from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the South Lincoln Resources warehouse on Crestline Drive in Waldport.
Booth said families served ranged in size from two to 13. They should be getting enough food, he said, to serve a Thanksgiving meal or “sustain themselves for a week.”
Applications for the food boxes – and a similar effort that includes Christmas gifts for kids – were available at Washington Federal Bank in Waldport and various churches.
People who may have missed the opportunity for Thanksgiving food can still sign up for Christmas help by Dec. 2, Booth said. Food and gifts will be delivered Dec. 17.
People can call South Lincoln Resources at 541-563-3710, Ext. 1 to leave a message that Booth will return.
