YACHATS – The Valentine’s Day Ceremony of Renewal and Commitment, which has been held 24 of the last 26 years, is on again for Tuesday, Feb. 14 at Yachats Community Presbyterian Church.
It is the second year the Presbyterian church has offered its sanctuary for the event. The museum began holding vow renewals in 1996 but was unable during 2020 and 2021 because of the pandemic. Now the museum is temporarily closed in preparation for a major renovation.
Yachats Community Presbyterian Church has stepped in again to host the vow renewals. This year’s theme is “The Power of Two” and both married and unmarried committed couples are invited to attend.
The group ceremony will be offered at twice on Valentine’s Day — noon and 5:30 p.m.
Mary Crook, the independent minister who has facilitated the event since it began, said hundreds of couples have come to Yachats to renew their vows over the years.
“For some couples it is a first-time experience; for others it has become an annual tradition – something fun and meaningful to do on Valentine’s Day,” Crook said.
Couples who attend will be given a certificate as a memento of the occasion
Guitarist Richard Sharpless will play a selection of romantic pieces at the noon ceremony, and singer-musician Dave Cowden will provide music at 5:30 p.m.
The Valentine’s Day vow renewal is also a fundraiser for the Little Log Church Museum. A donation to the museum of $20 per couple is suggested. Space is limited, reservations are required and can be made by calling Crook at 541-547-4547.
